Tian Xuebin Meets with ICID President Felix Reinders

  On July 30, 2019, Mr. Tian Xuebin, Vice Minister of Water Resources (MWR) met with a delegation headed by Mr. Felix Reinders, President of International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID). Two sides exchanged views on further strengthening exchange and cooperation.

  Vice Minister Tian conveyed his warm welcome towards the ICID delegation, and pointed out that Ministry of Water Resources of China attaches great importance to its cooperation with ICID. Vice Minister Tian made a brief introduction on the irrigation development in China, and noted that China stands ready to share experiences and technologies in the spheres of water-saving irrigation, flood control and drainage with counterparts all over the world. MWR will provide full support to the China National Commission on Irrigation and Drainage’s bid to host the 4th World Irrigation Forum in 2022.

  On behalf of ICID, Mr. Felix Reinders expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Ministry of Water Resources for its enduring and considerable support. He highlighted that China is the most important partner of ICID. As a big country with large irrigation areas, China not only has a long history of irrigation, but also pursues an effective irrigation management system and comprehensive development of irrigation technologies. It has been deemed as a successful model of irrigation undertaking by other countries. In recent years, with the strong support of MWR, Chinese experts have played significant roles in ICID. Mr. Felix Reinders expressed his willingness to continue to deepen cooperation with the Chinese counterparts, in order to gear up the capacity-building of irrigation and drainage in developing countries and contribute to global water governance.
